Postcard: The Storm Has Passed

The Cessna and Rainbow. Photo by Ryan Zuniga

It's been two and a half weeks since Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) had wreaked unimaginable havoc in the Visayas region. The disaster had claimed thousands of lives, millions worth of properties and livelihood, and had displaced more than four million people. We have witnessed how cities and towns fell and how our fellowmen and even several countries around the world have extended their help in order to rebuild and claim what was lost during the disaster. We had already experienced this kind of adversary in the past, and I am confident that we'll rise again.

Always remember that you are a spectacular gift to the world. After the storm comes a rainbow - a reminder that no matter how bitter and harsh life is, better days follow.

Postcard: Shadow of the Day

Plaridel, Bulacan

Day 7. Plaridel Airport, Bulacan.

Almost everyday, we get the chance to witness Plaridel's beautiful sunset. It so happened that the facility is facing west and the weather's always fine. Here are some of my sunset photos in Plaridel, Bulacan, all of which were taken using my iPhone. The image quality's really good and I only did a few tweaks through Afterlight (a photo app).

Postcard: Dream of Para, Para, Parasailing

Parasailing.
Parasailing.

Yet another postcard photo taken somewhere in Davao Gulf last year.

On our way to Babu Santa Resort in Talikud Island, we spotted this group who were obviously enjoying their parasailing activity. I immediately changed my lens (from kit lens to telephoto lens) and took some snapshots. It was pretty evident that they were enjoying it because we could hear their screams even if they were a hundred meters away from us!

And the sun will set for you...

Red, orange and blue.

“The pale stars were sliding into their places. The whispering of the leaves was almost hushed. All about them it was still and shadowy and sweet. It was that wonderful moment when, for lack of a visible horizon, the not yet darkened world seems infinitely greater—a moment when anything can happen, anything be believed in.”

Postcard: From Junk to Art

Awesome street art at KK.

While strolling around downtown Kota Kinabalu, we passed by this particular abandoned lot, adjacent to the mall. We surmised that a building once stood there, and got demolished after some time. Its foundations were the only remaining part. Somehow, it was vandalized using spray paints and other similar materials. I am not a fan of street art because I'd always associate it with gang, drugs, and other manifestations of an evil and malevolent spirit (lolwhat). Sounds OA, but true story, bro.

My perceptions however changed after visiting this particular spot at downtown KK.

For The Love Of Instagram (and other photo apps)

Follow me: @rmbulseco

It has been a year since I downloaded Instagram on my iPod Touch (which now belongs to my brother). There's so much hype about this app even up to this date. The interface is very simple: take a photo of anything that fancies you, apply a desired filter, then voila! You now have a "vintage-y grungy-ey looking-ey" photo. No need to post process photos on photoshop! Even the most mundane thing on earth, say a trash bin or a silly photo of you could turn into an extraordinary one with the help of the available filters.

Surreal Sunset in Manila

Manila Sunset

For those who have followed this blog for quite some time, you might notice that I always post sunset photos whenever I'm on a trip - be in Nueva Ecija or Boracay Island. Yesterday, I got a chance to witness a beautiful sunset, and this time in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

Postcard: The Roof of the Philippines

It's been a year since the last time I visited Brgy. Kapatagan, Digos, Davao del Sur. This is the place where you can have a closer look to the highest peak of the country - Mount Apo. With a height of almost 10,000 ft., Mount Apo is the place where you can find various rare species of Waling-Waling (Vanda sp.), the mighty Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), and many more.

Postcard: Southern Cebu Landscape

Robbie, Jerome, and I traveled all the way from Cebu City to the municipality of Dalaguete, which is a three hour journey from the Metro. Along the way, we were greeted by the picturesque seascapes on our left and old churches on our right. It was such a beautiful sight! Everything was well preserved, the air was clean, and life seemed so simple.

Postcard: The Pinatubo Crater Lake

It was a exactly a year ago when I trekked Mount Pinatubo together with some thirty travel bloggers coming from the different points of the country. It was my first time to trek a mountain and I was not really sure if I made the right decision. But apparently, I did not regret of flying all the way to Capas, Tarlac just to see the magnificent view of the crater lake. It was truly worth it.

See The World in Style on the Vision of the Seas

The Vision Of The Seas gives its name to what is arguably the most sophisticated and elegant class of ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. As ever with ships of its calibre there is a huge range of activity options for guests to choice from throughout the day and on into the evening. A key element of which is focussed on the food side of the equation, with a banquet of cuisines always on offer on the Vision. You can do very little indeed or you can try your hand at every last activity but the real draw of the whole thing remains the views and on the Vision you really are able to see some truly stunning regions of the world. For the very best vantage point, you'll want to head up to the Viking Lounge, which offers incredible views in every direction.

The Island That Vanishes: Sanipaan Shoal

Vanishing Island
Vanishing Island of Samal
Sanipaan Shoal, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte

This is probably one of my most favorite places in Davao. I fell in love with this island when I first went here last 2008 for a laboratory field work in Botany. Indeed, the island (technically, it's a shoal) vanishes when the tide is high.
